Play safe and Be safe
September 17 2025
Rising Trends: Australia is experiencing a significant increase in STIs, with syphilis and gonorrhoea diagnoses more than doubling over the past ten years, and chlamydia rates remaining high.
Syphilis Surge: The number of syphilis cases has tripled in the past decade.
Congenital Syphilis: A worrying increase in congenital syphilis cases, where the infection is passed from a mother to a baby during pregnancy, has also been noted, resulting in infant deaths.
Factors Contributing to the Rise: Potential factors include reduced condom use, especially among young people and older individuals, and broader social determinants of health like housing, income, and job security, which can affect access to testing and treatment.
What You Should Do
Practice Safe Sex: Use condoms with water-based lubricant for vaginal, anal, and oral sex.
Get Tested Regularly: Get a full sexual health check for STIs, including chlamydia, syphilis, gonorrhoea, and HIV, at least once a year, or more often if you have multiple partners.
Be Proactive with Your GP: Discuss and offer asymptomatic STI screening during general check-ups, when discussing contraception, or other health-related appointments.
Know the Symptoms: Seek medical advice if you experience symptoms of an STI, but be aware that syphilis and chlamydia can have no symptoms, making regular testing essential.

Good to raise this issue. I had my blood check last month including STIs and all clear. In all my time playing I have never contracted a STI. In groups most use condoms. Always with strangers at clubs. Twice I had a woman call to say she had chlamydia and I should get checked. Both times the results were negative. They had both contracted it from another man after I had sex with them. So it is out there. And it pays to be sensible for sure.

Good to raise awareness of the risks etc.
As the saying goes, one is only as safe as the last person that one has sex with.MsSuperFoxy

Thanks Arth.
Love ya work.
It's always good to be constantly reminded to do STD checks and keep up to date.
Regular testing is essential!

These are the dice you/ we/ all roll, with each person met and each sexual experience. The more partners the more risk.

Taking on board the topic and the comments in this thread, an approach to managing the health of oneself and anyone they fuck is important.
Open conversations with nothing left off the table helps build trust. Being open about sexual past and experiences.
This is one of those “Fantasy vs Reality” topics where there are consequences to be mindful of. The other side of this is playing unprotected needs a greater level of care and attention with regards to testing routines, use of antivirals (especially in the gay community), more careful choice about your potential partners and even more candid conversations.
I’m not on board with “eliminate all risk at any cost” mindset because it doesn’t reflect reality. Finding a common ground of consent is reality.Alex_Lover

I'm part of a polycule of 4 who's plays bare. While now and then someone in the polycule will play with an outside partner, usually using condoms.
Everyone is serious about safety, and fun. We all test every 3 months or so, and only play with recently tested people.
So I asked ChatGPT to give me a risk profile, of someone bringing an STI into the polycule.
The results were fascinating, and very detailed. Basically it said HPV & some form of Herpes are likely, given enough years in this scenario. While all other infections had extremely low probabilities for our particular situation.
Side note, it recommended we all get vaccinated for HPV & HepB.

People on here and other sexual dating sites should produce a medical assessment,or some kind of test to prove you dont have a STD,as i found out after 8 weeks of being with someone from here, that i had contacted herpes 2 virus, and i know it was from here,as i hadnt been with anyone in 5 years, took the risk of not being protected, and now ive paid the price, and now it makes things more difficult to meet someone new, play safe people.
