  I think a little from A and a little from B. With more widespread acceptance comes greater exposure and lessened feelings of guilt or shame, which encourages not only openness but also self exploration. That said, given the conversations I've had with lady friends in my younger days, they were plenty naughty back then as well. Another part of it is the company that you keep, I doubt you'll see much of this stuff if you visit a more conservative area, but elsewhere you might pass a dozen people who like getting choked while walking to the local shops.

  It’s become so mainstream I choke Abi as a wake up call. Works wonders.
  
  But seriously, there’s more acceptance of kink now and I find sexually a lot of women are open to what you’ve described even if they’re virgins to it.
  
  Like any element of intimacy, it’s trust that allows the exploration and consenting exploitation of vulnerability.

  I think the people who are into it are into it the those who are not aren't. I don't think the percentages would have really changed all that much. It would depend on how exposed someone has been to BDSM/kink. In my world, its has remained steady and consistent over the years.

  I have been a hair-puller and "mock" choker for a long time. I do find that women are becoming more willing to try kinks as it's become more mainstream. Choking is an advanced kink and I advice others to do an exhaustive research into this and try on themselves before attempting, hopefully first negotiating, on another.
  
  When done correctly it's incredibly empowering and intoxicating for powerplay.
