  Doesn't that signal something to you? Without context - are these verified profiles or the bot / fake ones?
  
  -Or just upgrade membership to get more messages / allow them to message you first etc...
  
  -But if they reply can't you reply right back?

  With that membership; you get 10 conversations a day, with unlimited replies to ongoing messages.
  So how does your chatting messages run out, just before someone shows hard intetest?

  As long as the person is replying, they don't "run out"... Unless the 7 days expires.
